InfoLit for U: Learning to Think Critically in a Digital World
In a world where information is everywhere but not always reliable, the ability to think critically, search effectively, and evaluate sources has become unprecedentedly important. To support students across Hong Kong’s UGC-funded universities to develop these vital skills, the “InfoLit for U” MOOC is designed to promote information literacy in higher education.
Developed by the libraries of eight UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong, this course is part of a joint-university initiative to promote information literacy in higher education. Under this initiative, the project team has launched a short drama series on YouTube featuring a cast of rising local actors and actresses. Through humor, drama, the series presents fictional characters and scenarios that reflect the kinds of challenges learners may face when dealing with information in complex real world situations. The series brings the challenges of information use to life, making the course not only educational but also entertaining.
“InfoLit for U” MOOC is designed for undergraduate students at all levels, offering a practical and engaging introduction to the core principles of information literacy. The course is structured around five key themes that guide learners through the process of becoming informed, independent thinkers. Students will learn how to identify their information needs, search for ideas rather than just answers, evaluate sources critically, connect diverse perspectives, and engage with learning communities to grow their understanding.
This innovative approach to education put together multimedia storytelling and academic content, making information literacy more accessible and relevant to today’s learners. By combining the power of narrative with interactive learning, the course aims to inspire students to see themselves not just as consumers of information, but as active participants in the creation and sharing of knowledge.
Whether you are a first-year student or nearing graduation, this course offers valuable tools to help you thrive in your academic journey and beyond. Enrol in the course and begin your journey toward becoming a more informed and empowered learner.
